The Robert Benchley Society is a forum for appreciation and discussion of the work and life of twentieth-century American humorist Robert Benchley. The Society was founded in 2003 by fans of Benchley and has grown to have chapters in several cities. We run an annual humor writing competition. Past judges have included Dave Barry, Arte Johnson, Bob Newhart, and Mark Russell. We enjoy warm relationships with the societies devoted to other writers in Benchley's circle. And we work in cooperation with Benchley's heirs and copyright holders to promulgate his works and image. All Benchley materials reproduced on this site are either in the public domain or are reproduced with permission of the copyright holder.
